What if the moon landing failed? It was certainly a possibility, and president Nixon needed to have a speech to address the nation…just in case.
The Atlantic has found the speech President Nixon would have made in 1969 if the Apollo 11 Moon landing had failed and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had not succeeded. The author of this speech was New York Times’ columnist Bill Safire, and is as follows:
“Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.” (con’t)
