Little-Known Facts About Chris Evans, Everyone’s Favorite Superhero
There's no denying that Chris Evans has blossomed into one of Hollywood's biggest stars in recent years. Known mostly for his role as Captain America, he's proven that he can be much more than just a superhero and that he's in the business for the long haul. However, he isn't the most public person, and even his biggest fans don't know all that much about him. Let's learn more about Chris Evan and what makes him tick.
He's A Solitary Guy
While it's obvious that his co-workers and fans love to be around the actor, apparently, Chris Evans is actually more of a solitary person. He claims that he likes to be on his own more than most people might think and that one of his favorite activities to do by himself is to go camping.
This is almost hard to believe, considering that he seems like such a charismatic person who everyone wants to be around.
He Had A Crush On Sandra Bullock
Although he wouldn't be alone in this, Evans has admitted that he had a childhood crush on fellow actor Sandra Bullock. This isn't surprising, because not only is Bullock extremely beautiful but also very successful, being named the highest-paid actress in the world in 2010 and again in 2014.
We hope that Evans gets the chance to work with her one of these days because audiences then might see Chris Evans shy for the first time in front of the camera!
He Struggles With Anxiety
While being a famous actor may seem like living the high life, there are a lot of stresses and struggles that they have to live with. Evans has come out to explain that he's suffered from anxiety at points in his career, telling Rolling Stone that walking on the red carpet can be like "walking on hot coals."
It's important for celebrities to be honest about their hardships, so their fans don't think that they lead a perfect life.
He LOVES His Dog Dodger
While it's not unusual for celebrities to love their furry friends, Chris Evans makes his love for his dog, Dodger, very clear. When he finished filming Knives Out, he even had a doggie-version of the sweater he wore in the film made for Dodger.
Of course, when he posted it on social media, people lost their minds and couldn't get enough of Evans and his best friend. Maybe we'll see Dodger in a cameo role at some point!
His Captain America Outfit Gave Him Headaches
It's not easy being a superhero, even if you're just playing one on the big screen. Chris Evans' experience playing Captain America is a testament to this, as he had to spend countless hours in the gym in order to get the right physique for the job.
If that wasn't grueling enough, he claims that the helmet he had to wear would give him constant headaches during filming. Luckily, at least it looks good on him!
His Dad's A Dentist
Although you can't tell now, while Evans was growing up his teeth needed some work. In a 2011 interview with Jimmy Fallon, the actor commented, "I looked like the village idiot growing up because my teeth were trying to escape my face."
Luckily for him, his father is a dentist by profession and was able to give him the pearly whites that we all know and love today. We hope his dad didn't charge him for the work!
His First Acting Gig Was In 1997
A lot of people might see Chris Evans as a relatively new star in Hollywood, but it turns out that he's been acting since the late '90s. His first role was in an educational video title Biodiversity: Wild About Life!
Evans was just 16 at the time when this was filmed and wouldn't get another acting job until 2000, in the Fox mini-series Opposite Sex. Little did he know that he would soon become one of the most famous actors in the business.
His Younger Brother Is An Actor
Considering what a star Evans has become in recent years, it's surprising that most people aren't aware that his younger brother is in the profession as well.
His brother, Scott, has been in small roles in television shows such as White Collar, Fringe, and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Maybe Scott will be able to ride on his brother's coattails and land a role that will make him super-famous too!
His Dream Of Working For Disney Came True
Because Disney owns Marvel Studios, every time Evans gets into his Captain America costume he is officially Disney property. As it turns out, this is totally okay with Evans, as he's wanted to work for Mickey Mouse his whole life.
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, he admitted that as a boy, he would "spent hours drawing alone in his room, dreaming of being a Disney animator." He may not be an animator, but we think he got the better job!
He Turned Down Captain America Twice
Even though it's arguably the role that changed Evans' life forever, he was almost never Captain America. But it isn't because he almost didn't get the role, but he turned down the offer not once, but twice!
We're going to assume it's safe to say that Evans is happy about this last-minute decision, considering how everything has played out for him since. It looks like the casting director really wanted him for the part and was right about it!
He Was In A Marilyn Manson Music Video
While it might be hard to imagine, Evans was actually in a Marilyn Manson music video along with his Not Another Teen Movie co-stars Jaime Pressly and Eric Christian Olson. The music video was for Manson's 2001 hit track "Tainted Love," where Evans can be seen being pushed out of the way by Manson.
We're going to bet that this isn't something that Evans frequently brings up. But at least Manson can say that he's pushed, Chris Evans!
He's Acted With His Marvel Co-Stars Outside Of The Franchise
Before Evans had the pleasure of working with Scarlett Johansson in Avengers, the two actually were in The Perfect Score in 2004 and again in The Nanny Diaries in 2007. But she isn't the only other Marvel star that he's worked with.
He worked alongside Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba in The Losers and in Snow Piercer with Tilda Swinton. Clearly, he was busier than a lot of us knew before he eventually put on the Captain America suit.
He Loves Tap Dancing
While most people might never guess it after seeing what he can do as Captain America, it turns out that Evans actually has a passion for tap dancing.
He says that it's a skill that he learned from his mom and has been open about his love for it in countless interviews. One time, to prove that he could actually dance, he showed off his skills in a 2017 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
He Has A Matching Tattoo With The Avengers' Cast
In order to celebrate the release of Avengers: Infinity Wars, it supposedly was Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson's idea to get matching tattoos with the rest of the original cast. While Mark Ruffalo eventually backed out, all of the other cast members joined in the fun.
The tattoo is designed to signify their characters of Iron Man, Hawkeye, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor. Apparently, all the actors involved helped draw up the design. We hope it looks okay because it's not going anywhere!
His First Marvel Role Was In 2005
While we all know the actor best as Captain America, most people don't know that's it's not even his first Marvel film! Back in 2005, he actually was cast in the film Fantastic Four as Johnny Storm or, better, the Human Torch.
Unfortunately, there's a reason that most people don't know this, considering that both audiences and critics panned the movie. Maybe that's he was afraid of doing another film all those years later.
He Learned To Play The Trumpet For A Role (Kind Of)
Before We Go was Evans' directorial debut, with him also starring in the film. To be authentic, he wanted to learn how to play the trumpet, as his character can in the movie.
However, he found the process to be extremely difficult, so instead, he memorized where to put his fingers on the instrument without actually making sound come out. This was definitely convincing enough for audiences, who probably never doubted that he wasn't actually playing.
He Refused To Shave His Beard Once
In the scene in the Avengers when the team is eating shawarma after saving the world, you notice that Captain America isn't eating or even saying anything. Apparently, this scene was shot after filming had originally wrapped, and since then, Evans had grown a beard and shaved his hair for the film Snowpiercer.
Because Evans refused to shave, and to make it look as realistic as possible, they put a wig on him and a prosthetic jaw.
His Body Had To Be Hidden In Snowpiercer
Although Evans had such an incredible body for acting as Captain America, this led to some problems on the set of Snowpiercer. Director Joon-ho Bong was actually afraid to cast Evans because he was in such good shape when his character was supposed to come from extreme poverty and would probably be out of shape.
They had to come up with tricks to hide his physique, so his character actually looked genuinely malnourished in the film.
He's Open To A Musical
Growing up in a family of performers, Chris Evans was always involved in some sort of performing arts in his childhood. At one point, he even played the lead role in a production of the musical Bye Bye Birdie, which required a fair amount of singing.
Apparently, he didn't mind it at all, and has said that he would be very interested in performing in a movie musical. We're sure this would only make his fans swoon even harder.
He Practices Buddhism
Like a handful of other Hollywood stars such as Richard Gere and Oliver Stone, Evans has shown a deep interest in the Buddhist religion to stay level-headed.
He's known to frequently practice it, spending three weeks at a Buddhist retreat in the mid-2000s. To this day, he still regularly mediates and follows the religion, which must be helpful considering all of the stress that he's under at any given time.
