It’s Time To Dent The Egos Of These Overrated Actors
Riding the waves of stardom doesn't make an actor good at their job. There are some who, even though they have won numerous awards and have performed in massive hits, are beyond overhyped (looking at you, Gwyneth Paltrow).
Sorry to dent their overinflated egos; these upcoming actors are beyond overrated.
Robert Pattinson
For a very long time, people couldn't differentiate between Robert Pattinson and Edward Cullen, the vampire he played in the Twilight franchise. While teenagers loved watching him play the centuries-old character, others knew his emotionless performance was overrated.
It took a long time for Pattinson to finally be treated as a "mature actor." Still, many people find him to be a has-been that never really was.
Gwyneth Paltrow
While Gwyneth Paltrow has an Academy Award for Best Actress on her resume, she has since received reviews stating that she should give the award back. That is not something an actor wants to hear about their work!
Still, it begs the question if Paltrow has had her time to shine and should now stick to solely working on her lifestyle company Goop.
Ben Affleck
All viewers have to do is watch Ben Affleck as Batman to understand his place as an overrated actor. While he has two Academy Awards to his name, neither are for his acting abilities.
The prestigious awards are for Best Original Screenplay and Best Direction. Pretty much, even the Academy thinks he should stay behind the camera and not in front of it.
Kristen Stewart
Poor Kristen Stewart will forever be known as the girl from the Twilight franchise. Sadly, this means people associate her acting abilities with that of a rock.
It took her a while to get out of the spotlight cast on her by teenagers who wanted a vampire boyfriend and those who knew her talent was not worth the hype.
Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler has made a career out of making slap-stick silly movies, including Daddy Day Car, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, and many others.
And while he showed he could be a dramatic actor in Uncut Gems, it didn't take away from the years of overhyped projects that earned Sandler a solid 40 Razzie nominations and nine wins.
Gal Gadot
Gal Gadot has only been on the silver screen since 2009. It didn't take long to realize that while she is in good films, such as the Fast and Furious franchise, she isn't a great actor.
The actress is the epitome of looking good on screen solely because she is surrounded by actual talent.
Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher shot to stardom with his role in The 70s Show. From there, he starred in many popular films, including The Butterfly Effect, Just Married, and Jobs. Sadly, his acting really isn't up to par with the projects he works on.
Many people actually think the two-time Razzie winner wouldn't have become as famous as he did unless it was for his very public relationships.
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan was once on the top of her game, from a child star in The Parent Trap to playing teenagers in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls.
Sadly, life got in the way, and the once-beloved actress began taking on horrible projects, such as I Know Who Killed Me. Now, she is nothing more than an overrated has-been who is making appearances on reality television shows.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker has been around so long, starring in Sex and the City, Failure to Launch, and even Hocus Pocus, that people aren't sure if she is overhyped or just doing something right with her career.
The thing is, there is a reason why she's been nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards and has only won two. That thing: she's overrated.
Megan Fox
In the early 2000s, many people enjoyed watching Megan Fox on screen in films such as Transformers. The thing is, aside from running around with perfect hair and makeup screaming "Sam!" while objects are blowing up all around her, Fox didn't do anything extraordinary.
People hyped her skills up because she was another pretty face on the silver screen, something seen by the subsequent movie flops she was involved in, as seen by her nine Golden Raspberry Award nominations and two wins.
Angelina Jolie
Even though Angelina Jolie has an Academy Award nomination under her belt, her career has been anything but steady, starring in both box office flops and successes. While she can be fun to watch on screen, especially in her more action-packed projects, she does fall into the category of "overhyped actors."
She has four Golden Raspberry Award nominations to prove it!
Miley Cyrus
While Miley Cyrus grew up in the Disney Channel spotlight, she did try her hand at more mature films. Sadly, The Last Song did not measure up to the hype surrounding the beloved Nicolas Sparks story.
Cyrus should really just stick to singing and save herself the trouble of getting nominated for yet another Golden Raspberry Award.
Nicolas Cage
Since his start in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage has acquired something of a cult following. And it is not because of his stellar acting abilities. Actually, it is quite the opposite. Cage's strangely funny to dramatic range has intrigued people, along with his ability to deliver dead-pan lines like "I'm going to steal the Declaration of Independence."
Even though he has an Academy Award for Best Actor to his name, Cage is still a bit overhyped when it comes to his overall talent.
Beyoncé Knowles
Beyonce Knowles should stick with what she knows. And what the star knows is singing and being in a recording studio, not in front of a camera for a sub-par performance on the silver screen.
Subpar is actually putting it nicely, too, as her performances in films such as Obsessed did nothing to boost her career. Knowles looked like a person who watched too many movies and was doing what she thought actors did in front of the camera. It didn't work out.
Jaden Smith
When Jaden Smith first got into the entertainment industry, people were curious. What could the youngest son of Will Smith have to offer film? The answer: nothing.
Emotionless with zero depth or substance, Jaden proved that having a famous father doesn't mean the acting gene runs in the family. Just watch After Earth for reference.
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes was a teen idol starting her career as Joey Potter on Dawson's Creek. But that type of career is short-lived, and Holmes began making a career out of being Tom Cruise's wife.
Once that relationship ended, Holmes wasn't working on any projects of note, landing roles such as Paramedic #1 in the film A Happening of Monumental Proportions.
Madonna
Madonna is one of those entertainers that should really stay on the stage singing her 80s hits and not make her way onto the silver screen. The Queen of Pop is a very overhyped actor, thanks to her eccentric personality and character.
Throughout her career, Madonna has been the recipient of 16 Golden Raspberry Awards, one of which she won for Worst Star of the Century!
Russell Brand
Funnyman Russell Brand has appeared in popular movies, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.
But it was more his quirky, eccentric, and strange personality that reeled people into watching him on the silver screen and not necessarily his superb skills as an actor. He's lackluster, at best.
Katherine Heigl
Something isn't right when the main portion of an actor's resume is filled with romantic comedies. Katherine Heigl is a queen of rom-coms, starring in films such as The Ugly Truth, Knocked Up, and Life as We Know It.
While the films get viewers to chuckle, it has nothing to do with Heigl's performance, which is clear to critics since she hasn't been nominated for an award since 2015.
Chris Pine
While many people think Chris Pine is fun to look at, his filmography leaves little to be admired. He's co-starred in some pretty questionable movies, including Wonder Woman 1984.
Pine gets away with bland performances by running his hands through his hair and giving a side-smirk that the original Captain Kirk might just roll his eyes at.
Zac Efron
When he first came into the entertainment industry, Zac Efron was a teen idol, starring in High School Musical before moving onto projects such as Charlie St. Cloud and Baywatch.
While he is nice to look at for many people, muscles and a nice smile don't equate to solid acting abilities, as seen by his two Golden Raspberry Award nominations.
